Robert’s patent career began when he saw an advert for Patent Examiners at the UK Patent Office which read, “Can you separate the sheep from the goats?”  He worked as a Patent Examiner at the UK Patent Office for four years in the general engineering team and specialised in releasable fastenings and web processing. 


Subsequently, Robert moved to private practice and trained as a patent attorney in a thriving Midlands based firm, where he worked on a broad range of subject matter including:

  • Knitting machines and needles
  • Electrode discharge machining
  • Locks, hinges and espagnolettes
  • Mandrels for winding and dispensing film
  • Methods of manufacturing novel plastics components
  • Rotary engines
  • Point of sale display devices
  • Packaging

On 5 January 2004, Robert joined the engineering team at a leading firm in Bristol, and worked on a similarly broad range of subject matter including:

  • Well bore liners and methods of installing well bore liners
  • Aerospace, eg turbine blades, engine starting
  • Oil rig top-side processing equipment, eg filters, separators, fluidising nozzles
  • Aquatic products, eg interactive aquariums, filters
  • Automotive, eg chassis design and build, drive line systems, steering systems
  • Medical, eg biopsy equipment, surgical jigs, implants

As well as being a Patent Attorney, Robert enjoys spending time cabinet making, and is particularly fond of the odd weekend walking the coastal path with his wife in West Wales.

Adrian graduated from Nottingham University with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from Coventry University.


After three years working in Tokyo for a Japanese patent law firm, dealing with developments in digital photography, compression algorithms and translation matters, Adrian joined a leading national UK patent and trade mark firm where he qualified as a British Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney.


Adrian is a Fellow of the British Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), and has patent drafting and prosecution experience in a variety of fields, including :

 

  • Electric motors
  • IC engines
  • Invalid hoists
  • Weighing devices
  • Shower trays, wet-floor formers, wastes, electric heaters, and bathroom furniture
  • Surgical tools, prostheses, and methods

  • Oil-fired and gas boilers

Adrian leads an active life, enjoying the gym and cycling to work, as well as studying Japanese.

Katie graduated from the University of Leicester with an Honours Degree in Law in 1999 and trained as a Trade Mark Attorney at a Midlands based Firm. She was awarded the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary & Westfield College, London and qualified as a UK and European Trade Mark Attorney at the first attempt in 2002. In 2004, Katie joined a leading national Patent & Trade Mark Firm and became a Partner in 2007.


Katie has wide experience in all aspects of Trade Mark law, including Trade Mark selection and searching, Trade Mark portfolio management, filing and prosecution of Trade Mark Applications throughout the world, initiating and defending Trade Mark opposition, invalidation and revocation proceedings and also, Trade Mark defence and enforcement. Katie enjoys working proactively with Clients throughout the brand creation process to ensure robust protection of Intellectual Property assets and advises a wide Client base, from new "start up" business to multinational corporations.


She has an extensive network of Attorney contacts around the world and regularly attends the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) and INTA (International Trademark Association) conferences.


Before embarking upon her legal career, Katie was an International three-day event rider, representing Great Britain. Whilst Katie no longer rides competitively, she still enjoys teaching riders of all ages and abilities and spending time with her young daughter.

Amie graduated from the University of Exeter with an Honours Degree in Law in 2009. Amie is now studying towards becoming a Trade Mark Attorney including conducting identical Trade Mark searches, responding to Examination reports before the UK Intellectual Property Office and advising clients about the adoption of new Trade Marks and filing strategy.


Amie first gained an interest in Intellectual Property when attending a week’s work placement at Albright Patents in 2007, which led her to follow modules in Intellectual Property and Company Law in her final year at university.


Amie volunteers for St John Ambulance in her spare time and enjoys cooking and is studying for an A Level in Business Studies.

Gabrielle graduated from the University of Southampton in 2002 with a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with European Studies.


She began work with the world’s leading metal packaging company, who had sponsored her as an undergraduate, and has enjoyed a number of technical positions in the Research and Development headquarters in Oxfordshire.


Gabrielle took up a trainee patent attorney position in the in-house IP department , specialising in aerosol related technologies. During that time, she obtained the Certificate in Intellectual Property from Queen Mary & Westfield College, London and gained experience in handling confidentiality agreements, searching for prior art and third party IP, patent prosecution and portfolio management.


Gabrielle subsequently moved into private practice, joining Albright Patents in November 2009, and has since gained experience of patent drafting and prosecution in mechanical related inventions, including:

  • Hair removal devices
  • Hedge cutters
  • Air conveyors
  • Collapsible bags
  • Tidal gate valves
  • Timer plugs
  • Abdominal exercise equipment
  • Pill dispensers

She is a Patents Technical Assistant and is currently working towards qualification in UK and Europe.


When not working, Gabrielle enjoys spending time with her two young daughters, running and kayaking.
