Our servce charge for filing a patent application is low, presently being £225 + vat.

Our service charge for requesting the official search is also low at only £175 + vat.

Including service charges and official fees, as of April 2010, a provisional patent application including description and drawings will generally cost around £800 to £1500 + vat and depending on the invnetion.

A full patent application including description, claims, drawings, abstract and request for the official search will generally cost around £1200 to £2200 + vat, again depending on the invention.

Formalising patent drawings for publication is typically charged at £75 + vat per page.

Following publication of the application at around 18 months from filing or priority, the Examination fee will become due.

For responding to an examination report or answering detailed queries, for example, our hourly rate for attorneys is used. Our houerly rate is very competitive and will save you costs when compared to larger IP firms.

A small grant fee is payable following allowance of your patent application, and a first annual renewal fee becomes due on the fourth anniversary of the application.
 

For a directly filed European patent application,the service charge is typically around £650 + vat for filing plus the official fees that have to be paid to the EPO.

The EPO official fees (click here for the EPO website) for a directly filed European patent application (usually including a priority claim) typically comprise Filing, Search, Excess Claim for each claim in excess of 15, and Excess Page for each page in excess of 35.

Following publication of the search report at around 18 months from filing or priority, the Examination, Designation, and Extension States fees will become due.

A first annual renewal fee becomes due on the second anniversary.

Overseas national patent filings, such as in the USA, Canada, Japan, China and Australia, typically cost anything from £1,000 to £2,500 + vat for applications in English.

By way of example, we have excellent associates in the USA, and are able to obtain
cost-effective filings typically in the order of £1400 to £1900 + vat.

Directly filed patent applications in other languages, such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean, tend to cost between £1,850 and £4,000 + vat including translation charges.

On-going prosecution costs spread over several years are typically between £1000 and £2000 (excl VAT), but can amount to more than this if complicated or numerous objections are raised during the prosecution.

Renewal ( annuity ) fees are payable on granted patents in all territories. However, in America, the renewal fee is due only every three and a half years.
